Everyone working with Make (Good) Trouble agrees to follow these procedures. This policy is available on our website.
⚠️ What’s an Accident or Incident?
- Accident = Something you saw happen that caused (or could have caused) harm or damage
- Incident = Something you didn’t see but is reported later or has signs of something happening.
Both must be recorded and taken seriously.
✅ Our goal: Prevent accidents
We work hard to keep everyone safe by:
- Doing risk assessments before any activity to spot possible dangers
- Checking equipment is stored safely and no cables or gear are trip hazards
- Encouraging everyone – staff and young people – to speak up if they spot something unsafe
- Keeping an eye on each other and taking care of our spaces.
📒 What to do If something happens
If you witness or hear about an accident or incident:
- Tell a member of staff straight away.
- Staff will fill in an Accident Report form below 👇 (copies are also kept near the first aid kit or with the First Aider).
- If it’s serious or someone’s hurt, we’ll contact their parent/carer immediately or call 999.
- Make sure everything is recorded and reviewed to help prevent it happening again.
👩⚕️ First Aid at our workshops
- There’s always a trained First Aider on site
→ Our First Aider is Tayler Cresswell - A first aid kit will be available and you’ll be told where it is when you arrive
- Tayler checks and restocks kits regularly.
🩹 How we deal with injuries (especially bleeding)
f someone is bleeding or there are bodily fluids involved:
- Put on gloves and a disposable apron
- Apply pressure to the wound using a dry, sterile dressing
- Keep the person calm and comfortable
- Clean up spills with disposable cloths or paper towels
- Keep others away to avoid spreading infection
- All waste (gloves, cloths, dressings) goes into the yellow clinical waste bags if available
- If the injury reopens, put on new gloves and apron.
🚨 If someone needs medical help
- Call 999 for an ambulance if it’s an emergency
- If it’s not urgent, tell the parent/carer and suggest they go to A&E
- If you’re not sure, it’s better to call 999 and get medical advice – especially for children.
📝 Examples of incidents (even if no one’s hurt)
These must still be reported:
- A heated argument or aggressive behaviour
- An out-of-character outburst or tantrum
- A stranger trying to enter the space
- An injury with no clear explanation (unwitnessed).
⛑ What if the accident involves staff or a visitor?
- Report it to a Make (Good) Trouble Manager
- Fill in the Accident / incident report form (below) or accident book (kept with the First Aid kit on site).
🔁 Why reporting matters
Every accident or incident helps us:
- Spot patterns
- Improve safety
- Make sure it doesn’t happen again.
👋 If you’re ever unsure, speak to Tayler Cresswell or a manager on site. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
